Happy Birthday

Danny. Where to start. Where to finish. Film. Music. Travel. Art. Sports. Friends. He has something special that most people in life don't have. Something that is so grand that it's not to be written, just experienced. From the first time I met Danny I sensed this. There he was. This larger than life character. Bright and boisterous. This New York style old boy personality with the face of a young kid from some small, most likely Italian predominant town. His voice carrying through the hallows of his open house. Daddy! he bellows. Huge smile on his face. A smile that I have been blessed to see for years past and with good fortune, years to come. He comes over and gives me a hello hug. Like an old friend from the new. I may have just met him but it felt like I had known him for years. I do not find it often in life people that you just meet but you feel like you have known for many years past. Nor do I find often, especially in Los Angeles, people who engage and ask questions about someone else's life. They are usually waiting for their turn to speak. Danny on the other hand, a patient talker, attentive listener. Interested in what others have to say. Maybe that's a recent thing because I imagine this man in the office making a deal talking a mile a minute, movin and shakin, laughing and hustling. I find it funny that a man so many people find so interesting and so intriguing, wants to find out what their life entails. He truly cares about his family and friends. He cares about people in general. That is something special you don't find every day. If its true that what you give should be equal to what you take, then Danny is someone who has a great many things coming his way. In due time my friend. In due time. You have given me so much insight into life and have made me a better person. I thank you for all the times you have been there to help me when I needed it. I tried to think the other day what is the greatest memory I have with Danny and there are too many to narrow down to one. But one that stands out was sometime a few months ago. We were talking about something funny. So funny that our laughter turned into tears. What we were talking about doesn't matter, what matters is every time I think back on the pain I felt from laughing so hard and hearing your laugh and seeing your tears of laughter to this day makes me laugh. You got a lot of love and a lot of life. You get better with age my friend. Here's to another 40 and many more tears of laughter. Salud.
Love my boy.
