My Most Memorable Moments

Dan Cardella Ages 0 - 480 months

Playing outside when one of the kids on the street asked me if Mommy was going to have a baby, me running in the house and asking her if she was (she was standing on the kitchen counter, pregnant, changing the lining in the cupboards) her saying yes and me running back outside to deliver the information like it was matter of fact I was eight years old. Mommy going to the hospital to have you. I think Uncle Donald picked her up. You in your powder blue and white onsie. Mommy changing your diaper in the bassinet in the dining room near the window closest to the Bromleys and you peeing all over her and me thinking that was very funny. You crawling all over Mommys sparkling clean kitchen floor. Your beautiful curly hair.Lying on the living room couch with you on my belly rocking you to sleep. You were so tiny. The day you didn't want to be rocked to sleep anymore. I was sad, you were growing up.Christmas time when you were an infant and playing with you in the living room - Mommy calling to me to come and eat supper - leaving you in the living room while I went to eat -walking into the kitchen and Daddy yelling at me for leaving you in there alone with the Christmas tree because youll eat the bulbs - running back into the living room and seeing you choking on a Christmas tree bulb, wondering how Daddy knew you were going to do that - everyone in a panic - mommy turning you upside down trying to get the bulb out - mommy ordering me to call Aunt Joan to tell her that she and daddy were rushing you to the emergency room because you were choking on a Christmas tree bulb (just like daddy said you would) - watching mommy and Daddy running out of the house mommy and daddy walking back into the house while I was on the phone with Aunt Joan because the bulb came out on the way to the hospital. Being very relieved that I didn't kill you thinking that Daddy has super powers - being overprotective for the rest of my life. How proud I was/am of you being a black belt in Karate and thinking that those other people who get black belts in 6 months arent really doing karate.Walking you to Hughseys for candy every day after Joey died. You gluing the newspaper picture of Joey to the base board of your bunk bed. When you straightened your hair and daddy thought you were nuts. When you didn't straighten your hair and daddy thought you were nuts.Cleaning your apartment at Notre Dame with Susan and Patricia. Cleaning your basement apartment in Brooklyn Heights.Visiting you in Chelsea when you had a house party for three days in a row and me cleaning up afterwards picking up hundreds (no kidding) of empty beer bottles. Your apartment in SOHO.Your apartment on 95th. Your apartment with all of the plants..Stopping on the side of the road on interstate 79, you getting out of the car and running up the hill for no apparent reason whatsoever, watching you in disbelief - you getting back in the car and driving off and mommy sitting there without uttering a word as if it never happened. Her non-reaction was funnier than your lunacy.Having drinks with you just me and you recently in La Jolla. I loved that! My over the top, 5 star, unbelievably spectacular, unforgettable, unable to describe 40th birthday in Italy that you made possible. Ill never be able to thank you.Going to the play how to make a million dollars without really trying. I think Tatiana was your date. The other girl you dated with BIG hair and loud.Playing spades with you. You wrecking my 300 ZX three (or was it four) times. Finding $100 dollar bills all over the basement floor on Rose Avenue, every time you left town to go back to New York! Jackpot! Always being mesmerized by your brilliance.Always thinking how handsome you are.Always thinking how interesting you are. Always having the experience that I wish I could spend more time with you. How much respect I have for you and the things that you've accomplish, like running a marathon, graduating from Notre Dame, traveling internationally, playing the piano and the drums and speaking Spanish. You inspire me.Changing your people places and thingsYour rendition of the 12-days of Christmas
